The task of changing a life is, in some ways, an immense one. The raw material is a person with potential that is as yet unrealized. The work is a team effort, people pulling together with mutual understanding and trust. Over time, the life begins to change, a new skill is learned, a new task mastered, then perhaps a set of tasks can be completed. The impact of these small, often incremental changes can accumulate and be dramatic.
Darrel's Success Story
Darrel is a charismatic man who enjoys being a coffee connoisseur, attending church on Sundays, and being as independent as possible. Although Darrel has had physical challenges over the years, he continues to have a positive attitude and strives to reach his goal of being able to walk again.

John Franklin Stephens, a 30-year old man with Down Syndrome, has written a letter to columnist and commentator Ann Coulter to educate her about how destructive use of the word "retard" is. Coulter called President Obama "a retard" in a recent tweet.

Cindy McCombe Spindler has a daughter with cerebral palsy, and wants to make the world a better place for people with disabilities. She recently created an organization called Ability Catcher (abilitycatcher.com), which I am sure you will be hearing more about.
