Long-Term Success! Another TMI Consumer Proves That People With Developmental Disabilities Can Be Great Employees.

Gina has worked at the San Ysidro Port of Entry for over 12 years. Back in 2002 she came to TMI seeking help finding a job. Within three months TMI was able to help her get hired for her current position. Her work at the Port of Entry is through a contract with another nonprofit organization called Job Options. TMI staff members provide ongoing job coaching to maintain Gina's successful in her job.

Gina is a considered a valued employee who demonstrates a strong work ethic and an ability to get things done. During her time at San Ysidro she has received multiple pay increases and is currently making double her starting salary.

Working at the San Ysidro Port of Entry is no easy thing as it is a high-risk location. Dangers include construction/renovation nearby, drug smugglers, arrests and a high volume of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. People working at this site need to have a high degree of safety awareness and common sense. Gina regularly shows up for work on time every day, and tackles her work with enthusiasm. She has been recognized at least twice this year on Job Options "Extra Mile" board, making her eligible for prizes and cash awards.

Outside of work Gina is an avid camper. She loves to travel to Michoacán, Mexico with her mother to visit family. Gina is also loves going to Las Vegas. She went there in 2011 and is hoping for another visit soon.

Gina, like so many of our other consumers with disabilities, has proven herself to be a hard worker, a dependable long-term employee, and certainly an asset to Job Options. TMI is proud to help people like Gina enter the workforce and become successful employees and contributing members of the community.
