Point of Transition

Point of Transition Service Integration Project (POTSIP) was funded in 1996 by the U.S. Department of Education as a three-year project designed to assist students with disabilities as they move to the world of adult life. This model addresses the needs of students who require significant support by linking them to a private, non-profit agency such as TMI at the start of their last year in public school. The main goal of POTSIP is to provide students with a seamless transition from school to adult services, which is accomplished through a collaborative effort between School, the Department of Rehabilitation, the Department of Developmental Services and a private non-profit adult agency.
Program Services
During a student's last year in public school, TMI staff work
closely with teachers to secure and maintain paid employment and to
assist student's to access generic community resources. Most students
will exit school with paid jobs and have the ability to engage in an
array of community activities of their choice. Some students will
require ongoing support from a job coach while others will need
occasional monitoring. Transition services are designed to meet the
unique needs of each student.
