CONCERNS ABOUT THE CURRENT OUTBREAK OF THE "SWINE FLU"
Email to TMI Staff 4/28/2009 from Kirby Wohlander, Executive Director

I know there is concern among some people on our staff about the outbreak of the latest flu in Mexico and in a various places around the U.S.   There is some information attached to this email that may be helpful to you in understanding what is happening, and also, what you can do to avoid getting sick.  There is also information about how to recognize the symptoms of swine flu in children and adults, what one can do to prevent spreading illness to others, etc.

The key points are:
  • Cover you nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing by using a tissue which you then throw away.
  • Some say, if you don’t have a tissue it is better to cough or sneeze into your sleeve than into your hand.
  • Also be sure to wash your hands frequently
  • Don’t  come to work if you think you are sick

I urge you to read the attached information sheets and hope you find this information helpful.  We don’t know yet how this flu will affect the San Diego area.  So far, only a small handful of people have become ill with swine flue in this region.  However we are monitoring the situation and will strive to keep you informed.  You can be sure that we at TMI will do whatever we can to keep our employees and our consumers safe and healthy.

Kirby
