COMMUNITY LIVING SERVICES

We believe that all people can live in homes of their own if they get the support they need to be safe and successful. Our services are non-exclusionary which means they are available to anyone who wants and needs them regardless of the type or severity of their disability. We believe that all people have dreams nd our work is about helping people realize their dreams for a fuller more meaningful life. We focus on people’s strengths while addressing their needs and promoting their self-esteem. Our role is that of partner. Together we strive to set goals, expectations and agreements - to figure things out together and to work as part of a team. Over time as trust is earned and we get to know one another, we can both work on letting go of the need to control all of the variables. We learn to negotiate compromises, develop safe solutions and minimize risk. The quality of people’s lives is related to the balance they are able to achieve betweem the increased opportunities amd reasonable risks which are a natural part of community life.

People are all different. Their needs are different and therefore what they want from us in the way of support will vary greatly. There are no prerequistes for community living. TMI believes that people don’t need to earn the right to live in the community by mastering certain skills or aptitudes prior to referral. Some people will become completely independent in some skill areas over time. Others will always need assistance or supports. We are proud to point to the successes of so many who many others thought would always need skilled nursing services or facility care.
