Deaf Plus Parent Advocacy Group

The Toward Maximum Independence (TMI) Deaf Plus Parent Advocacy Group supports parents and caregivers of Deaf Plus individuals (Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals with additional disabilities) through education, advocacy, and connection. We help families navigate systems, understand rights and options, and access the resources needed to support their loved ones at home, school, work, and in the community. TMI is an approved vendor with Inland Regional Center. We look forward to working with you!

Eligibility Criteria

  • Individuals receiving services through Inland Regional Center (IRC) and/or the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR).

  • Parents, primary caregivers, family members, conservators, and other supports identified by the client.

  • Willingness to participate in group activities and advocacy efforts.

Target Population

  • Parents and caregivers of Deaf Plus individuals of all ages impacted by hearing loss and additional disabilities. We serve families at any stage of their journey.

  • Riverside County (Inland Regional Center Service Area).

Services & Activities

  • Education & Training - Workshops and training on client rights, service options, and community resources.

  • Information & Resource Sharing - Up-to-date information on local and statewide programs, services, and technological advancements.

  • Peer Support & Connection - A supportive space for parents to share experiences, encouragement, and solutions.

  • Systems Navigation Support - Guidance in understanding IRC, DOR, schools, and other service systems.

  • Advocacy & Community Outreach - Strengthening community advocacy to improve inclusion and access to services.

  • Mentorship Program - At least 10 parents will participate in a mentorship program in Year 1.
