How to Get Started with Toward Maximum Independence

Toward Maximum Independence (TMI) is honored to offer a variety of innovative and trusted services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). We also offer services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and veterans with disabilities. We currently serve more than 1,300 individuals throughout San Diego, Riverside and Imperial Counties. Please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page for answers to some initial questions that you may have.

REFERRAL PROCESS

Individuals can contact TMI directly or can be referred by a family member, conservator, care provider, or a Regional Center or Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) Service Coordinator.

In order to receive TMI services, individuals must first meet San Diego Regional Center (serving San Diego and Imperial Counties) eligibility requirements and apply or Inland Regional Center (serving Riverside County) eligibility requirements and apply.

Our Supported Employment program, as well as our program for veterans with disabilities are funded by DOR. You must meet DOR eligibility requirements and apply to receive these services.

In some cases, we offer services via private billing.

Once approved by a Regional Center or DOR, individuals will have their choice of a nonprofit agency, such as TMI, to receive assistance with meeting their goals.

Once a referral is made, a TMI representative will reach out to you to discuss the program in more detail and to schedule an intake meeting for the client to meet their TMI team and receive the necessary materials to get started.

Please contact us with any questions you have about how to get started with TMI. We look forward to hearing from you!
