Celebrating 25 Years of Dedication: Honoring Ginger Cohen, TMI's Director of Corporate Communications

Toward Maximum Independence (TMI) is incredibly proud to celebrate a remarkable milestone: Ginger Cohen, our dedicated Director of Corporate Communications, is marking 25 years of exceptional service to our organization!
For a quarter-century, Ginger has been an important asset to TMI, consistently demonstrating a profound commitment to our mission of assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and veterans with disabilities to be included members of the community. Formerly Director of Administration & Public Relations with the Academy for Guided Imagery, her journey with TMI began in June 2000 as the Manager of Administrative Services, overseeing administrative and building operations, as well as playing a key role on the TMI PR/Marketing Committee. She then transitioned to Director of Finance & Facilities, managing the organization's financials and building operations for eight and a half years. In October 2015, Ginger stepped into her role as Media Communications & Corporate Relations Specialist prior to taking on her current role in August 2023 as Director of Corporate Communications.
Ginger is the driving force behind TMI's public image. She develops and executes comprehensive communication campaigns to increase public awareness of our identity and brand, ensuring positive public relations and attention from the community, affiliate agencies, and vendors. In 2017, Ginger developed and launched TMI's new website which she continues to expand and maintain, along with our blog. She has written more than 200 stories highlighting TMI's clients, staff and community partners. Ginger also spearheads our social media presence, designs email marketing campaigns, and creates our marketing materials, including brochures, annual impact reports, and advertisements, as well as composes and distributes TMI press materials.
Beyond her vital role at TMI, Ginger is a recognized leader in the wider disability services community. She serves as the Chair of the California Disability Services Association (CDSA) PR/Marketing Committee, further showcasing her expertise and dedication to advocating for individuals with disabilities.
In recognition of her exceptional contributions, Ginger was awarded with Administrative Employee of the Year in 2017 and an Outstanding Director Award in 2023. These well-deserved accolades are a testament to her unwavering commitment and the significant impact she
has had on our organization.
Ginger's journey at TMI has been marked by a consistent track record of providing sound business solutions, achieving performance goals, and implementing change that benefits our organization's bottom line.
A San Diego native, Ginger is a graduate of California State University, Chico, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism/Public Relations and a minor in Psychology. She spent several years in San Francisco and the Bay Area practicing public relations prior to returning to San Diego.
Ginger takes great joy in writing about the achievements of TMI’s clients, as well as the positive and lasting impact that TMI is making in their lives. She hopes that her work is helping to contribute to a more inclusive world for individuals with IDD.
