Toward Maximum Independence (TMI) Executive Director Rachel Harris announced today that TMI Chairman of the Board Bryan Shull was awarded Business Volunteer of the Year by the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce on February 23, 2019. Held at the Courtyard by Marriott in El Cajon, the “East County Honors” annual awards gala celebrated and honored top businesses and community leaders that have had a lasting impact on the San Diego East County community. A resident of Granite Hills, Shull has served on TMI’s Board of Directors since 2013 and is Vice President/Branch Manager of Silvergate Bank in La Mesa.
Serving San Diego, Riverside and Imperial Counties, TMI is a nonprofit agency with a long standing reputation for best practices in providing personalized assistance to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities such as autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy.
“Bryan is currently serving his second term as our Board President,” said Harris. “He is highly respected by his peers and all of us at TMI. His contributions to our Board, thus far, will have a lasting impact on the lives of not only our more than 800 clients, but also our nearly 400 employees. Bryan exemplifies a steadfast dedication, passion and commitment to the East County.”

Shull specializes in business banking at Silvergate Bank. His position affords him the opportunity to become active in the community. In addition to his volunteer work with TMI, his additional activities include a seat on the Board of the East County Chamber of Commerce, graduate from and sits on the Steering Committee for East County Leadership, Chair of the Steering Committee for the East County Homeless Task Force, and Treasurer of the East County Economic Development Council. Additionally, he has participated in JA Day and taught in Class for Junior Achievement, coaches the Girl’s Holy Trinity Junior Varsity Soccer Team (9-0 last year), as well as started a faith-based group called the Net, which has been a platform for donations to several nonprofit faith-based charities.
“I am greatly humbled by this award,” said Shull. “Giving back to the community means the world to me and I look forward to continuing to do so for many more years to come.”
