Game-Changing Grant to Support Deaf and Hard of Hearing Families!

Man and child sit on stairs, both in green shirts. Man animatedly gestures while child listens intently. Bright, neutral-toned setting.

Toward Maximum Independence (TMI) is incredibly proud to announce we’ve been awarded a $200,000 grant from Inland Regional Center (IRC)! This generous funding is the launchpad for a vital new initiative: a Parent Advocacy Support Group for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) families. This is a major boost of support for the DHH community!

Empowerment, Support, and Advocacy

This group is all about empowerment and support for the families of DHH clients served by IRC. We’re creating a collaborative and safe space where parents can share, learn, and advocate with confidence!

This initiative is a true game-changer because it directly addresses the unique needs and challenges faced by these families. Our goals for the support group include:

  • System Navigation: We’ll provide the education and resources needed to help families effectively access the right services within the complex regional center system.

  • Shared Experience: We’re creating a supportive environment for parents to share challenges, strategies, and successes, fostering connection and community.

  • Advocacy Skills: The group will work to strengthen parents' voices so they can become the most effective advocates possible for their children's needs.

  • Voicing Needs: This group will also serve as a crucial platform for parents to directly speak with funders like IRC, Department of Rehabilitation (DOR), and Department of Developmental Services (DDS). This ensures transparency, accountability, and the delivery of culturally appropriate services.

This exciting initiative will connect families and dramatically improve the quality and accessibility of services for the DHH community.

A huge thank you to IRC for this generous partnership and for investing in the future of the families we serve! We can't wait to see the positive impact this new Parent Advocacy Support Group will have. For more information, please contact: info@tmi-inc.org.
