In 2021, on any given day in the United States, there are approximately 440,000 children living in foster care. These children come from a range of backgrounds and have variety of needs, but one thing is true for all: they need a safe and caring home.
After “aging out” of the system, 25% of foster teens will experience homelessness at least once.
A caring and involved foster parent can help guide the teen to give them the tools necessary to be independent as an adult.
Children with disabilities are three times more likely to be abused.
Children with intellectual and mental health disabilities have nearly five times the risk of being sexually abused.
These children need a safe haven.
As a licensed Resource Family Agency (Foster Family Agency) (RFA License #370603102), Toward Maximum Independence (TMI) believes all children belong in families. We strive to find Resource / Foster Families for children with special needs in San Diego who are unable to remain with their family of origin. Children thrive when they feel safe, secure and loved. It is our goal to recruit Resource Families that can offer these comforts that should be afforded to all children.
