TMI's Own Personal Hero

Updated: May 15, 2019

Jamie working at Vons

Toward Maximum Independence (TMI) has its own personal hero! Jamie, a Vons courtesy clerk supported through TMI’s Supported Employment program, was on duty collecting carts in the Vons parking lot when she noticed an elderly man sitting in his parked car in a handicapped spot. As Jamie walked by, the man motioned for her to come over. Jamie cautiously approached him and quickly noticed he was confused and not making sense. She could have thought the man was strange and ignored him, but she chose to take action and immediately get help.

Leticia, a Vons Manager, came out and spoke to the man who was incoherent and holding his left arm. Seeing that the man was in distress and most likely having a stroke, she quickly called 911. The responder asked Leticia to ask the man several questions and when he couldn’t answer the questions, ambulances were immediately discharged and arrived 30 seconds later. Jamie’s quick thinking undoubtedly saved this man’s life. Way to take charge of the situation and show your care for others Jamie!
