Q&A With TMI Associate Executive Director Jessie Campbell

With Toward Maximum Independence (TMI) for 10 years, TMI Associate Executive Director Jessie Campbell has helped TMI grow and expand over the last several years to now serve more than 1,000 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. His answers reflect his steadfast commitment and belief that all individuals should have access to a job or volunteer position that they enjoy, live in a home of their choosing and that all children should live in a safe and caring home.


Q. What interested you about working at TMI?

A. The team approach, everyone at TMI really cares about the clients and the work that we do. TMI provides a positive approach when engaging stakeholders, and is well respected in the disability service provider network.


Q. What is your favorite thing about working at TMI?

A. Everyone at TMI is so supportive and passionate about the work that we do as an agency.


Q. What challenges do you and/or our clients face? How have you handled the challenges?

A. Uncertainty in funding provided for services. We have handled the challenges by being creative (coming up with innovative ways to provide quality services with limited funding) on how we handle challenges by continuing to focus on the big picture.

Q. What are your hopes for the future of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities?

A. That they are provided the services they need, as well as being able to make informed choices about where and how they live.

Q. How does making a difference in the lives of our clients make you feel?

A. Helping others and making a difference gives me a sense of joy and purpose.

Q. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

A. I enjoy spending time with family, reading, coaching football, and being involved in the community.

Q. Who do you admire? Why?

A. My father for the sacrifices he made serving his country and his dedication to his family.
