Can You Provide a Caring Home to a Child With Special Needs?

Updated: May 14, 2019

Foster Family

Toward Maximum Independence (TMI) is currently seeking resource / foster parents for children with special needs. We will be holding a New Resource Family Orientation on March 15, 2018 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. The orientation will provide training to give you a better understanding of our organization, our process, payments to resource families, and paperwork needed to become a certified resource parent with TMI.

As a Licensed Foster Family Agency (FFA), TMI helps parents manage difficult challenges and obtain the relief and support they need. Resource families are for children with developmental disabilities who are unable to remain with their family of origin temporarily or permanently.

Child with special needs

Our Resource Family program includes, but is not limited to:

  • Comprehensive orientation to new resource families followed by extensive ongoing training to fulfill annual requirements

  • In-house Autism Spectrum Disorder training and certification

  • Pro-Act certification

  • Resource parent support group meetings

  • Ongoing certification of resource family homes per Community Care Licensing and Regional Center requirements

  • Placement of children with resource families chosen to best meet the child’s needs

  • Respite (out-of-home) provided by our resource families to Regional Center clients

  • Facilitation of shared parenting relationships and communication between parents of origin and resource parents

  • Social work support to resource families and families of origin

  • Assistance to resource parents at medical and psychiatric appointments

  • Intensive supports by Master Level Social Workers

  • Behavioral support provided by licensed clinician (when appropriate)

Children thrive when they feel safe, secure and loved. This is the drive behind our belief that “all children belong in families!”

Please RSVP with Nataly Martinez at (858) 467-0600, Ext 317 or natalym@tmi-inc.org to attend the orientation. Location: Toward Maximum Independence, 4740 Murphy Canyon Rd., 2nd Floor Conference Center. Thank you for your interest in making a difference in the life of a child!
