(Kathy with our client John)
Congratulations to Toward Maximum Independence (TMI) East County Independent Living Facilitator, Kathy Sorenson, on celebrating 30 years with TMI! Kathy was first interested in working at TMI in part because of the flexible schedule TMI’s Independent Living program offers, but mostly because she loves working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Her favorite thing about working at TMI over the years was her time spent providing services to TMI’s client John. John and his family became family to Kathy.
“Kathy is really a one-of-a-kind person. She has spent many, many years working with our clients and helping them achieve their goals,” said TMI Case Manager Jenna Plante. “Kathy always made sure her client (John) had a great quality of life and was/is an extremely strong advocate. Kathy has been a dedicated and loyal employee.”
Both Kathy and her clients have faced life challenges over the years. She believes in putting one foot in front of the other to figure out what works best. Kathy encourages her clients to do the same. Her motto is, “one day at a time.” Seeing her clients succeed makes Kathy very happy.
In Kathy’s free time she enjoys riding motorcycles, boating, traveling, hiking with her two dogs, and spending time with friends and family. One her favorite things to do is volunteer to walk and give love to dogs who are being sheltered. Kathy also has two kitties and a grand pup she loves to spend time with. She believes in living a healthy life by working out and enjoys teaching others how to exercise and eat healthy.
Kathy hopes to see additional INCLUSION in the future for all individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. We do too, Kathy! Thank you, Kathy, for your many years of commitment and dedication to TMI and our clients. We appreciate you and we know our clients do too!
An estimated 1 in 6 people are born with a developmental disability. Just like you, they are born with hopes, dreams and the drive to contribute to society. Since 1981 Toward Maximum Independence (TMI) has transformed thousands of lives by providing assistance to children and adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, giving them the ability to realize their hopes and dreams.
